I hit publish on this piece, then a few minutes later as I was shutting tabs I came across this little documentary on Lake, which I hadn't seen before. Uncanny how close the things he says are to the things I wrote!

Ooooh! Saved to watch later.

(Also: As always, I love the strong sense of place in your writing.)

I hear this 🙏🏻

“Maybe those who continue along the road of art are simply those in whom the drive to self-actualise is stronger than the need for self-preservation.”

Rosie, I absolutely love this. Big resonance with my early 20s in nipaluna Hobart. Life is so different now, as little islands of art makers that meet from time to time. Still sharing vital nourishment, throwing life lines to not give up, but its a far cry from those rolicking clusters.

I’m stitching again and took up the blue silk to make your badge. Should it say ’intertidal being’ or ’intertidal lover’ I wonder, or some other phrase?

Hooray! I think maybe 'intertidal creature'? 'Intertidal being' is also good though...

My Mum says re. playing three recorders at once: "Just looked up Stenty (Graeme Stentiford) on line and read to my great sorrow that he died seven years ago. From memory his trick was playing two different recorder parts while also humming a different harmony at the same time. Can't remember if it was one recorder or two (I think two). Paul will know. Definitely not three. I don't know if you remember, he and Paul used to play beautiful lute duets together...

[She goes & asks my Dad:] Yes, apparently it was two recorders, and he used to do percussion as well playing drums with his feet. And who knows what else."
